Working with states to strengthen leadership and governance towards school improvement

SSIP: The Systemic School Improvement Programme enables leaders at all levels to:
• develop a common and measurable understanding of holistic school quality across stakeholder
• measure the performance of schools against validated quality benchmarks
• use the data to begin to work in peer communities of leaders (at all levels) to support schools in a targeted manner to develop capacity to lead change
• Validate improvement
• Document learnings and best practices in a way that they can be fed back into the system
• Activate networks of local stakeholders (volunteers, public libraries, local industry etc.) to create an ecosystem of support around schools

The Gooru Navigator App
The Gooru Navigator app has been designed by Gyan Prakash Foundation to meet the needs of students and teachers. Using this app effectively can help schools achieve Level 3 in Standards 3 and 5 of Domain 3 (Learners’ Progress, Attainment & Development) of the Shaala Siddhi Framework.

Programme's Aim

By focusing on competencies, the Gooru Navigator app provides teachers with assessments as well as resources to strengthen literacy and numeracy learning outcomes in the important foundational and preparatory years.

The outcomes of this programme so far have included:
  • 1840 students demonstrated a gain in competencies related to foundational literacy and numeracy.
  • 1,050 primary school teachers were trained to use the app, and 140 started to use it regularly to plan lessons. 52 teachers were identified as champions.
  • At the block and cluster level, 140 Block Resource Centre Coordinators, Block Resource Persons, Cluster Resource Persons, and Additional District Education Inspectors were oriented and trained to support the teachers.
  • A statewide baseline assessment was conducted covering 4000 students as the state adopted this programme to support foundational literacy and numeracy.
