Pema Norbu
Programme Associate, Arunachal Pradesh
Growing up away from home for the purpose of education ignited in Pema an aspiration to work in the education sector in his own home town where it was most needed. Joining Adhyayan in 2024 Pema fulfilled this dream. During his undergrad years at Shoolini University, Pema worked with women artisans in the Himalayas along with Fazl Socks. During these years Pema developed a passion to work and explore the Himalayas and rural India. Right after graduation Pema volunteered as a warden and a teacher at a children’s home in Manali. Here he decided to pursue a career in Social work, which landed him at Tata Institute of Social Sciences and pursued a course in MA Social Work with Children & Families.
In his two years in Maharashtra Pema worked with Indian Cancer Society & Diganta Swaraj Foundation, where he was able to demonstrate his innovative skills and deepen his passion for equity in education and understanding of child rights. He also worked with the District Child Protection Unit, Palakkad in the Attappady region where he experienced & understood the need for education among the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.
Apart from work, Pema loves to travel away from the city life and hike, read and try all kinds of food.
